Tizona's Blog for March 2019 Litter
7 Weeks 1 Day
This is my last post for this litter, as my focus is on getting the puppies ready for their new homes after this. They will have their vet visit on Saturday (except Buttercup, who will next week). They have had their shots, microchip, and are doing well with crate training. They are at 7 hours now, and I have only had one accident total, so that is very, very good.

6 Weeks 1 Day
Today is the day the puppies are chosen for their new homes. Buttercup has already been chosen. The rest will have their new homes in the next few hours. This is always an exciting for me. I love seeing the families chose their puppy but I realize that my time with them is getting very short. They are extremely cute right now and their personalities are so lively and happy.
This is also a very busy time for the puppies. They will be getting shots, microchips, and start their night time crate training. It is a little stressful for them but they always adjust to it quickly and begin to love their new routine. Conditioning is still going really well with this group. Sour cream has been a huge hit!

The puppies are doing fantastic and have lots of personality now. They love to run and play. They are very active for longer and longer periods. I have completed their personality testing and am still unable to save my results into a pdf for online publishing so I will go through each category and describe their results. Please look back at one of the previous litters for the interpretation of these results. The first 6 tests have virtually identical responses. There will be differences noted in the later tests.
1) Crouch and have puppy come to me: all 5 puppies had similar, excellent reactions. All came readily with Cosmos and Primrose being most quick to come.
2) Walk away and have puppy follow: all 5 puppies had similar, excellent reactions. All came readily with Cosmos and Primrose being most quick to come.
3) Restraint (hold on back for 30 seconds): my puppies all enjoy this. They are completely comfortable.
4) Social Dominance (place by side and stroke til response): all my puppies are comfortable with this too. They take it as a sign of love.
5) Elevation Dominance (hold by front leg armpits upright for 30 seconds): They could stay in this position all day--completely comfortable.
6) Retrieving: all tried to get the paper but not were able to get it to bring it back.
7) Touch sensitivity (squeeze between toes). Buttercup (5 to 6 seconds) all the rest (2-4 seconds).
8) Sound sensitivity (my wife banged a pan at 10 feet): Buttercup, Iris, and Wolfsbane located and moved toward the sound. Primrose and Cosmos located the sound but did not investigate--they came to me instead.
9) Sight sensitivity (towel jerked in front of vision): all puppies followed the towel and tried to get it.
10) Stability (umbrella opened in front of puppy): Buttercup and Primrose investigated. Iris, Cosmos and Wolfsbane looked but did not investigate.
11) Structure: all are as they should be.

The puppies are continuing to grow and become more and more social. They love being snuggled and held. They are beginning to play more and more. In some of the videos, the puppies are following my son around while in others, we had them sit for a good portion of it, because they were too active in the videos to get a good view of them. They are entering their very sweet stage and it is a lot of fun.

We will be posting individual comments today, but we have the same comment for all of them with regard to the conditioning--they gulp down the sour cream and don't notice anything that we do. As a result, they are already very loving and enjoy our company. We just finished baths and two puppies are now sleeping on Keaton. As a reminder, my comments are based on our first round of observations and I have seen puppies change significantly from week to week. Some puppies will have a lot more personality early, while others express their personalities later. The best way to do this is to tract the personality across the weeks to see patterns.

3 Week 4 Days
This is one of our favorite days-naming the puppies! We have chosen a flower theme this time and the most fun was trying to find names appropriate for our boys. The puppies are much more active and will walk around all over the place. We love watching them explore. They are eating solid food now, so some of them have slight staining on their faces. That is normal for weeks 3-6, until they learn to be clean. They continue to love their sour cream. I am convinced that I could do anything to them, so long as they got their sour cream, which is good because they are becoming very conditioned to experiences that will make them better with humans later on. The puppies also had their first baths and all of them loved it. Here is their first round of individual pictures.

The puppies continue to do great. They walk around a lot now and are beginning to nibble at their solid food. They continue to love their sour cream and are doing great at conditioning. I will be giving their name tags and begin their individual pictures this weekend. (No pictures this post)
2 Week 5 Days
The puppies are now walking, exploring, and are starting to show a little personality. They still are not interested in solid foods. I show them where their water and solid food is every day, but Tizona is still completely satisfying them--so they don't feel the need to try it yet. They have transitioned in the last few days from just barely walking to getting around a lot. They will now venture up to 10 feet. They are so cute now that they hold their heads up like they are "little dogs".
Our first day of conditioning began was today. We do six activities with them: 1) I pull their tail 2) I rub their fur back and forth 3) I pull on each ear 4) I rub my finger on the inside of their mouth and teeth 5) I hold their mouth shut for five seconds 6) I pinch between their toes. The idea is to give them a treat between each of these activities to help get them accustomed to what they may face in their new homes. After today, I am fairly convinced I could do almost anything to them, so long as I gave them sour cream. I have normally used yogurt but we didn't have any so I switched to sour cream and they loved it. . The puppies were so totally absorbed in their treats that they did not seem to notice any of what I was doing, which is what we are hoping for. This was a fantastic first day for conditioning!

2 Week 2 Days
The puppies are getting huge! Every day when I do the neurological stimulation it seems like they are very different from the day before. They are plump, content, and looking very cute. They are continuing to do well with the neurological stimulation. They should start to eat nibbles of solid food sometime in the next week--as they get better at walking and can go where ever they want. So far, their mobility is still pretty limited to a 2 to 3 foot area. By the end of their 2nd week they will be exploring.
1 Week 5 Days
Everything is continuing to go well. The puppies have completely gotten the routine down with the neurological stimulation and are relaxed during it. That is the response I hope to see, since it shows that they are learning. They are getting more and more cute each day and are now crawling around. Tizona is nursing them like big puppies, sitting upright instead of laying down because they are already too big to all get on in the laying position.
1 Week 2 Days
The puppies are growing really well and are fantastic at nursing. Their neurological stimulation has been right on track. I already see them settling in to the different positions and showing that they are learning. Tizona is loving being a mother. She is making it hard to have this as her last litter. The puppies still mostly eat and sleep so I don't have any personality to report yet.
Day 5
Last night was a sad night. The little puppy that we have been fighting for did not make it. I have heard that if a puppy is not right it will normally show up early--but it is still very sad to see the little guy pass. The other puppies are all very healthy and active. They eat vigorously and Tizona is loving being their mother. This is the best she has ever been at mothering. She is lining them all up to nurse. She even spent time alone with the little guy to help him out. It was really precious. Dew claws have been removed and neurological stimulation has begun. So far they are active--which is fairly typical for the first few times. Then they get to know what they are facing and begin relaxing through it. That is the learning that we are seeking through this process.
Day 1
I woke up to the excitement of puppies! Tizona had four puppies when I got up at 5:00. I cancelled plans for the day and stayed home while she had her 6 puppies. She has 3 boys and 3 girls (initial check, but I am pretty sure I am right). All of the puppies are good sized and have nursed. We had taken Tizona to the vet just shy of 3 weeks ago for a pregnancy check and the vet did not think she was pregnant. Fortunately, I saw enough signs to have her isolated in our birthing area so all went well. It is so exciting to have some puppies. This will be Tizona's last litter and she is so content with her puppies.
