Week 7 Day 2
This will be my last posting but it is a super fun one. The puppies personalities have really emerged. What you will see on the two videos is what they are like almost all the time now. Some exploring, a lot of playing and they love being next to me. I forgot to change after washing the puppies so you will see that I am wet. The puppies are doing well at crate training, though they still whine for a bit when first put in. They made it 7 hours last night with no accidents. I took them outside at 5:00 in the morning and they ate and went to the bathroom. They have established routines and set places to do their business (more or less) so they should be very easy to house train. Thanks so much for the time I have been able to have with them--they are truly amazing and I look forward to hearing about their adventures with you! Jeff
Week 6 Day 5
My goal when taking videos (and pictures to some extent) is to show their actual personalities as closely as possible. I was sharing with one of the families when they were picking their puppy that I will take from 3-6 videos of each puppy and select the one that best matches what they actually behave like. That said, I always fall short. Sometimes, I am waking them up from naps. At other times, they get focused on something in the area I am taking the videos and I don't quite get their personality. This week I am four for five. The only puppy that didn't show his normal exuberance is Inigo. All the rest are very accurate to how they behave with me.
Their personalities continue to develop with the more experiences that they gain. This morning, I took them outside for their breakfast and they spent an hour in the great outdoors with no limits. They wandered over a hundred feet from the house, playing as a group until they got tired and then came back and rested until I took them in. It was so awesome to see them comfortable exploring and playing as a group.

Week 5 Day 7
The puppies are coming to the end of conditioning and did well. They are all very relaxed and love being with me. They seem too young to do the personality testing (designed for 7 weeks minimum but I can generally do most activities) so I am making comments on each puppies week 5 day 7 comments regarding the various tests and how they have behaved in everyday life. Obviously, their personalities will continue to develop and could change significantly still.

Week 5 Day 3
These puppies are growing machines! I began weaning them a couple of days ago but they just keep on growing. I think that some of these weight gains have to be empty belly/full belly differences because a typical days grow is the 4-6 ounces. That said, they are active, playful, super friendly, and still sleepy when not playing. This group has probably been the cleanest group I have ever had. Typically, I will begin washing puppies (by necessity) at 4 weeks. Weeks 4-8 are difficult because they really don't have a lot of ability to control themselves and I have to be there every 10 minutes to clean after them to keep them from being messy. For whatever reason, this group doesn't walk through or lay in their messes so I will wash them today, but only because it teaches me about them. Hopefully, that translates to easy potty training later. Kira is super sad to have weaning begin but it was time and the puppies are adjusting very well to their new diet.
I took videos outside today and while the quality of the videos is generally good, it didn't show off their personalities very well. All of them were much more relaxed (except for Fezzik, who was normal), probably because of the cold. I will plan on having one more full posting before choosing day--hopefully on Thursday or Friday of this week.

Week 5 Day 2
Weaning has begun and the puppies still spend most of their time sleeping! That said, when they are awake they are super affectionate and love to be with me. They are playful and enjoy my attention. I am still having a hard time getting a good take on them because they still sleep a lot so my comments are still a bit more limited than I would like. And once again, their weights are incredibly close with a range of 4 ounces, even though they gained over a pound in the 4 days since my last weighing. Also, the puppies were all sleeping just before videos so you are seeing what they are like when I wake them up. All but Valerie did exceptionally well. She still wanted to sleep.
Fezzik
Fezzik loved sitting on my lap and being petted. He continues to be responsive and friendly.

Week 4 Day 5
These are the most evenly sized puppies that I have ever had, with a difference of only 4 ounces from biggest to smallest. They are also very evenly behaved, though they still spend most of their times sleeping and I am only making observations during their short window of being awake. Once again, I have managed to time my picture time with their eating time--probably a function of the fact that it is one of the few times that they are actually awake. I have included some preliminary comments on each puppy. Obviously, this will change significantly in the next week or so. Please keep that in mind, as well as recognize that pictures are a reflection of my skill (or lack thereof) and I am simply trying to get a good portrayal of each. I hope you enjoy this next round!
Fezzik
Fezzik is responsive and comes to me any time I am near (as does Inigo--see below). He likes to play with his siblings and also seems intelligent.

Week 4 Day 2
Puppy naming day! I have chosen to go with The Princess Bride theme so we have a Buttercup, Valerie, Westley, Inigo, and Fezzik. They are continuing to grow like weeds and are super huge and content. Conditioning continues to go well and they are all in love with me :). Enjoy the first round of individual pictures!

Week 3 Day 3
Conditioning was everything I expected it to be. From the first day, the puppies absolutely loved the sour cream and have done well at letting me do the activities without a second thought. They continue to mature and are now nibbling at the dog food, though they still get most of their nutrition from their mother. They are also a very blocky group and incredibly cute.
Week 3 Day 1
The puppies are continuing to grow and do well. They are getting more and more mobile. They sit up and are incredibly cute. Today will be their first day of conditioning (I haven't done it yet). In conditioning, I try to prepare them for their new homes by getting them used to some unpleasant actions by building them up to it slowly, all the while, giving them a treat. There are 6 things that I condition them for. 1) I pull their tale 2) I rub their fur backwards 3) I twist their ears 4) I rub the inside of their mouths 5) I pinch between their toes 6) I hold their muzzle shut for 5 seconds. I begin by giving them a treat (sour cream) and then I will very lightly do one of the activities. I go through all 6 of these. Over the course of a week, I begin to do them harder and harder so that the puppies are used to them and don't respond when they happen later. I had one family tell me that their 1 1/2 year old pulled the tale, rubbed the fur backwards and pulled on the puppy's ears and he just looked at him as if to say, "You love me." It really works and I now recommend that when you get your puppy that you do the 6 activities very lightly while giving the treat so that the puppies bond with you.
Week 2 Day 3
The puppies are getting very mobile now and will be spread out all over their pen (I have a 6x10 pen in my living area so that Kira is always near them and they don't get too far away). They will have their last day of neurological stimulation tomorrow. As you will see from the pictures, their eyes are open and they are starting to lift themselves up when they walk, and not just scoot along. They look like they will be a very blocky and beautiful group. It is still too early to tell whether they will have short or longer, wavy fur but I think a couple of them have early signs of the beautiful wavy coats. They spend most of their time sleeping now and I will often find a single puppy laying on its back with its legs up in the air, totally relaxed.
Week 2 Day 1
The puppies are all doing fantastic and are looking really good. They continue to respond as they should to neurological stimulation. They are crawling around more and more each day and can wander several feet easily. They spend most of their time sleeping, as they are very well fed and content.
Week 1 Day 3
The puppies are big and are starting to crawl longer distances (several feet now). Their eyes haven't yet opened but that should happen by my next posting. Neurological stimulation is going well. They are learning and starting to understand what to expect when I put them in the various positions. They continue to seem like a relaxed group. They all melt when I have them on their backs. They spend a lot more time sleeping now because they are full so it has made my job a lot easier. Enjoy the pictures (and yes, they did get most of their black skin).
Day 7
The puppies continue to do fantastic. They are through the most dangerous time, though I still have to be very diligent. They are growing fast and now spend most of the time sleeping (with full bellies). Neurological stimulation is going well. They seem like they will be a fairly calm group. They are hard to hold in all of the positions because they are so plump! As last time, pictures of 2 puppies are the girls and pictures of 3 puppies are the boys. You will see that their noses and paws are starting to change color from pink to black. By my next posting (Sunday), I expect they will be mostly changed.
Day 3
All the puppies are doing super well. They are very plump and active. They can scoot/crawl quite a ways to get under their heat lamp or closer to their mother. It is so interesting to see how they manage during these first few days. Pictures with 2 puppies are of the girls and with 3 it is the boys.
Day 1
Kira has 5 large healthy puppies! They are all eating and doing super well. Kira is loving them and feeding them well. They are super plump. I will be contacting those on the reservation list before I publish this page to my website so you will probably not see this until several days have passed. Here are her puppies day 1 pictures.
