Week 7 Day 4
This is our last post for these puppies--and it is always bitter sweet. We fall in love with them and they grab our hearts. We have 2 group video posts today of the puppies hanging out with Keaton and me. They are one of the most loving groups that I have had. They love to sit by our sides on the floor and just hang out. Several minutes of video that are not posting are of them kissing my face and playing. Seven puppy heaven! At the same time, I know that they are going to homes that will give them individual love and that is always so awesome to know.

Anakin is a happy and sweet little guy. He loves to play with the new toys I introduce to their playpen. You can often find him in a pile of puppies romping and rolling on the floor.

Week 6 Day 1
The puppies are getting more time outside as the weather is nice. It should begin raining tomorrow and rain for over a week, so we took advantage of the beautiful day and spent lots of time outside! I took a video of the entire litter just enjoying running in the grass. They were just finished with their naps so they had a hard time staying still in their individual videos. Hopefully I have enough video for those families who are picking through video! As a group, these are very friendly, human centered puppies. They love being with us and try to please us.

Week 5 Day 4
I normally do personality testing at about this time, but would like to delay it until Thursday and then do the choosing on Saturday and Sunday of next week. Conditioning continues to go well--they will leave their mothers to come to us now because they love their sour cream. The puppies have had a couple of days outside and are so cute. They wander away and then back, gaining confidence in their abilities. This is a smaller set of puppies but they are active, friendly and healthy. This upcoming week is a big one for them, as they will be microchipped, begin crate training, and have their personality test completed. The puppies had just gone to sleep when I began videoing so several are very relaxed. Most wanted to play with my feet. Enjoy!

Today was such a beautiful day I thought the puppies would enjoy an introduction to the outdoors. During their photo shoot today they got to explore new textures, smells, sounds. They were all thrilled to check out our deck and run in the sunshine!

The puppies continue to do well and are growing and becoming more and more active. Conditioning continues to be an amazing part of their lives. All but Padme were completely won over after their first day--which means we could do anything to them and they were simply interested in the sour cream. Padme took one extra day to get there, but she is now fully conditioned. We still continue to do these exercises because we want them to be completely comfortable with them. As a group, the puppies are quite relaxed. A couple have started to explore, and while have started to play together, this is still quite limited.

This litter is continuing to do very well! We did finally get the name tags on the puppies. Now that they are walking, they are starting to play with each other. They are toddling about and attempting to pounce on each other. It's really adorable! Personalities are beginning to show, and soon we will be able to share behaviors and tendencies of each individual puppy.

Week 3 Day 3
We have had an incredibly busy last couple of days. Orcrist had her puppies and they have consumed most of our time. Fortunately, Belka's puppies are all doing fantastic. We have begun their conditioning and this time, I took pictures of the process. Really, it is mostly of them licking my son's finger because as soon as they get that, anything we do is secondary. As a reminder, we do 6 actions to help condition them for what they may experience in their new homes and to get them to experience these actions as a positive part of their interaction with us. They are: 1) pull their tail 2) rub fur both ways 3) pull ears 4) rub inside of their mouths 5) hold their muzzle 6) pinch between their toes. Again, we do these gently to start with and give them the sour cream treat so that they think it is a game--and I assure you they are willing and ready to play this game anytime! The puppies are eating solid food now and walking around a lot. As you will see below, all of the puppies are gaining weight well. They are starting to get their personalities and are so cute and cuddly!
I have taken individual pictures, but we did not put on their name tags because they still seem a little bit too small for them. Instead, I have noted the pictures by Boy 1, Boy 2, etc... They are healthy, active, and are growing well--though there is a big difference between our largest and smallest boy (some of that has to do with a full belly at the time of weighing and some is a difference in size). Neurological stimulation is complete. As a group, they are fairly relaxed, with just a couple that were more active, and did very well at adjusting to the experiences. This upcoming week, we will begin our conditioning with them. That is always very exciting because the puppies will begin to develop a relationship with me through it.

Week 2 Day 1
These puppies are as sweet as can be! Their eyes are beginning to open, but they still spend most of the time sleeping. They have doubled in size since they were born! They are beginning to scoot around their playpen but still prefer the spot under the heat lamp.
Week 1 Day 4
Neurological stimulation continues to go well. The puppies are learning all of the ways that we hold them and are already calm in the various positions. This is always so remarkable because they start out squirming and now, they just melt in our hands when we do it. They have grown a lot again, and Belka is now asking to go outside for longer and longer amounts of time. They puppies are very quiet because their bellies are full and they are content.
Week 1 Day 1
The puppies have been growing a lot this week. I didn't weigh them, but I would guess that they have tripled in size. They continue to be active, and will crawl around quite a distance now. Their noses and paws have made the full transition from pink to black which had already begun on my last post. Neurological stimulation continues to go well. They are already learning what to expect and have become more comfortable with it. Again, I have separated the boys from the girls for the pictures so you can get some idea of what each looks like. They are very cute for this age.
Day 4
Today is a big day for our puppies. They have begun their neurological stimulation and now they are getting their dew claws removed. I have pictures of the girls separate from the boys so that you can see each group, as well as two of them all together. Belka is doing well and loves being a mommy. She has lots of milk and her puppies are growing well.
It has been a rough couple of days, which is not entirely unexpected but always difficult. We lost two babies. One was not well, and despite our best efforts and extra bottle feedings, was not able to keep its food down. We know this happens and it is always so sad since we spend sleepless nights trying to help the puppy. The other is just as tragic. When the puppies are small, my wife and I take turns waking up every hour to two hours because the mothers can accidentally roll over and crush one--which is what happened. Sadly, we are now down to 3 females and 4 males.

Our night started at 1:30 a.m. but it was worth it. Belka has nine, healthy, active puppies. She has 5 girls and 4 boys. They are already very active and will move around. When I was trying to take pictures, I pulled one aside to get a close up and he immediately began to crawl back to the pile--which is very advanced for their first day. Belka is doing well. She is loving them and all have already nursed.
